Welcome to the Chair of the History of Knowledge

How did knowledge of Africa or that originated in Africa come to Europe? How were notions of scarcity and crisis informed not only by material conditions, but also by scientific and intellectual currents? How did knowledge about social cohesion and humans living together come to be? In other words, how and in which forms did knowledge become the decisive basis for modern societies and their thinking about the future? The branch of history of knowledge of the University of Konstanz explores the historical development of knowledge, its changing forms and conditions for production as well as the evolution of the social functions of knowledge. ...more

ESEH-Gale Non-Residential Fellowships in Digital Environmental History

Dr. Gilberto Mazzoli, research associate in the ERC-funded project "Off the Road: The Environmental Aesthetics of Early Automobility" and an associate researcher in the History of Knowledge working group, is a member of the European Society for Environmental History (ESEH).

The society is currently working on a fellowship for digital environmental history, aimed at supporting early-career researchers working at the intersection of environmental history and digital humanities. The program supports research and teaching projects that rely on Gale Primary Sources and apply digital humanities methodologies in the context of environmental history.

The Deadline is the 27 September 2024.

In particular, we would like to point out the list of projects that have been funded so far - for inspiration and orientation. The position is available for 24 months starting in late 2024 or early 2025 (flexible start date). In principle, this position can be divided into two part-time positions.

ERUA Summit
Social Innovations Transformative Society

The yearly ERUA-Summit, will be from the 25th-27th of June at the Mykolas Romeris Univeristy in Vilnius. This years topic is: Social Innovations Transformative Society.

This Summit will be the final event of the Re:ERUA Project, which will end in September.

In her Master's thesis "Student Representatives’ Perceived Effectiveness of their Engagement in European University Alliances’ Governance Structures" (2022, University of Konstanz/Utrecht University), Kathrin Ebel explored student representatives’ perceptions of their engagement’s effectiveness in transnational higher education alliance governance such as ERUA.
