About

Valentin Köberlein is a doctoral student at the Chair of the History of Knowledge at the University of Konstanz since the winter semester 2021/22.

He studied historically oriented cultural studies with a focus on history, human geography and sustainability sciences in Saarbrücken (B.A.) as well as transcultural history and anthropology at the University of Konstanz and Università di Bologna (M.A.). In his studies, he dealt with interdisciplinary social-historical contexts of the modern era such as the history of playing and toys, which resulted in his final thesis on the methodical development of doll's houses as a source in the historical sciences (graduation 2018). He initially gained professional experience as a freelance historian (2018-2020). In the process, he wrote two in-house scientific publications of the company history of today's Ravensburger AG. He also worked in the Ravensburger company archive (2018-2019) and is a games editor for family and adult games at Ravensburger Verlag (since 2020).

Since 2021, he has been working on his dissertation project on the history of modern board games.
